YWD websites now display a little lock icon in the address bar, which depending on the browser being used will look like this:
* If your YWD website does not display the lock, please contact us at email@example.com. Some websites, depending on their domain registrar cannot be secured; your only option is to change registrars. Brand new websites are not immediately secured. Websites are updated in batches at off-hours. If you have any questions please contact us.
What does that icon mean?
The little lock indicates that your website is now using HTTPS, making it much more secure. HTTP (HyperText Transfer Protocol) and HTTPS (HyperText Transfer Protocol Secure) are both protocols for passing information between web servers and clients. Basically, HTTPS is a secure connection, whereas HTTP is not.
A few months ago, Google announced that it would start flagging and penalizing websites that used the old “http” protocol. So here at YWD we took a very proactive approach, and over the following weeks obtained secured SSL certificates and implemented them for all our clients – free of charge.
